The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is a Vietnamese state university. Founded in 2008, VGU is based on a close cooperation between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the German State Hessen. Within the past years, the project broadened to a German-wide cooperation.
Our goal is to build a research-oriented university of the world standard in Ho-Chi-Minh City. Being a joint effort of Vietnamese and German institutions, we follow the successful German model and standards concerning our academic and administrative structure.
VGU´s strategy is to import excellent German study programs, taken from the strongest engineering areas of Germany and customize them to the needs of Vietnamese higher education. While being in a transitional phase, our study programs are run by German partner universities which ensure their high quality by sending experienced professors from Germany. After successful study students receive a German university degree, providing them with best opportunities on the job market.
Given the mission by the Vietnamese government, VGU aims to become the leading research university in Vietnam and the region. Focusing on High-Tech Engineering and Sustainable Development, we seek to train excellent academics and to provide ample qualification to Vietnamese university lecturers, so they can compete on an international level.

An education of German standard right in Vietnam
VGU offers selected Bachelor and Masters programs, taken from the strongest engineering areas of Germany. The study programs are run by our German partner universities who ensure their high-quality training by sending academic teams of experienced professors and experts to lecture at VGU. Students receive an excellent, internationally competitive education of German standards, and thus, are provided with the best opportunities on the job market.

By participating in VGU´s Foundation Year Bachelor students gain necessary English language skills to successfully study at VGU. English courses are also offered during the study. VGU also offers German language courses to undergraduate students. Due to our international orientation, VGU provides students with excellent language skills necessary for a career on the local and international job market.
Attractive tuition fees and scholarships
The tuition fees at VGU are very moderate and far below the actual costs of our high-quality study programs. Since the university receives significant financial and in-kind support from German and Vietnamese partners and friends, VGU makes it possible for students to study at an excellent university at low fees. Attractive and generous scholarships for all programs are also offered at VGU.
A gateway to Germany
Studying at VGU is a gateway to Germany. VGU offers the opportunity to study at German universities for one semester or to continue with postgraduate programs, Master´s or Ph.D., in Germany. Furthermore, students have the possibility to do internships at German companies and multinationals in Vietnam. That´s why studying at VGU ensures excellent opportunities in research positions as well as on the local and international job market.
STUDY PROGRAMS
1. Bachelor Programs
* Foundation Year (FY)
The Foundation Year at VGU is a mandatory preparation course for all Bachelor programs, with duration of one year. The foundation year aims at preparing the students for their studies by strengthening English language proficiency relevant to their courses, reviewing particular aspects of high school level science, improving problem solving skills through both independent, critical thinking and teamwork, and familiarizing students with helpful software skills.
* Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (EEIT)
In cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (FRA-UAS), Germany.
The aim of this accredited Bachelor of Engineering degree program is to train its graduates for professional careers in development, production, and sales in the field of electrical engineering and information technology. The students acquire basic, professional qualifications and practice methodical engineering work in modern laboratories. After completing their studies, they have acquired special skills for the development of circuits, systems, and products for electrical engineering and information technology. In addition to the engineering competencies, interdisciplinary competencies and soft skills are taught, enabling the students to carry out complex professional projects in their future professional career and to take responsibility for the professional development of individuals and teams.
* Mechanical Engineering (ME)
The Bachelor "Mechanical Engineering" is a six semester study program combining basic engineering sciences with fundamental natural sciences and mathematics. Students can choose between two majors "Engineering Design and Automation" or "Energy and Process Engineering". The program provides students with expert skills and knowledge needed for a career in industry as well as a broad and solid academic foundation for the continuation of their studies in a master's program. Partner Universities for the Mechanical Engineering study program are Ruhr-University Bochum and Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.
* Computer Science (Software Engineering & Information Technologies) (CS)
Computer Science is an internationally accredited program from the German Partner University of Applied Siences Frankfurt am Main. The program was internationally accredited by ASIIN agency. The certificate was issued on 15/07/2013 and is valid until 30/09/2022.

- After successfully passing the Bachelor's examination, the Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main - University of Applied Sciences awards the academic degree Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.).
* Finance and Accounting (BFA)
In cooperation with the Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.
The Bachelor Program in "Finance and Accounting" is a goal-oriented course of study with the highest quality standards that prepares students for a successful professional career. This program is accredited in Germany and certified by the AACSB, a quality standard for economics programs, recognized across the world. In Frankfurt, VGU's Finance and Accounting Bachelor program has attracted strong interest from world class business companies, such as KPMG and PWC, as well as international banks.
* Business Administration (BBA)
In cooperation with the Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.
The Business Administration program at VGU aims to equip students with in-depth knowledge in different aspects of business administration while at the same time enriching their communication, negotiation, analyzing, problem solving, strategic planning, management and leadership skills which prepare them for success in the ever changing and challenging business world.
The partner University of the BBA is the Goethe-University of Frankfurt, Germany's top university in economic education and research. The partner university supports the program by providing high quality lecturers, i.e. professors/lecturers with a PhD degree, who will work with our Vietnamese lecturers to make the best out of our students. The partner University also provides us with support in quality assurance, curriculum development, and diploma issuance. Therefore, VGU students will have double degrees, one by VGU and the other by the partner university.
* Civil Engineering (CE)
The Bachelor program "Civil Engineering" is a six semester study program covering the fundamentals of civil engineering and focusing on Structural Engineering. It offers a wide array of subjects to train generalists with in-depth specialization in structural engineering, creating a myriad of opportunities in the construction business, engineering offices, and public authorities – or even beyond the field of civil engineering. The program also provides a broad and solid academic foundation to pursue a master's degree.
Our German partner Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC) was founded in 1964. Today it has 2500 Students, 85 Professors and 190 Lecturers, all contributing to the excellent reputation of the university. With its compact size, it allows to work in small groups with an open and personal atmosphere.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Project Management of Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC) will award the Bachelor degree to the graduates after completion of the studies.
* Architecture (Arch)
The international program in Architecture at Vietnamese-German University is cooperated with Anhalt University of Applied Sciences combines art and design with natural scientific, economic, and ecological requirements. Being offered by most renowned GermAnchoran university for architecture, the program conveys all necessary expertise for a successful career start with a focus on practical aspects. Architecture means "designing and planning" - from the urban surroundings to construction details. Cities and buildings influence the lives of each individual; outdoor and indoor spaces as well as landscapes and gardens contribute to society's well-being.
The core learning of BA of Architecture is designing and structural engineering as well as planning under consideration of urban development aspects. The practical knowledge and case study are taught with many different contexts like humanities, artistic design, natural science and technical fields, economics, law, and ecology; from classic architectural drawings to models to virtual moving camera shots and animation.
2. Master Programs
* Computational Engineering (CompEng)
Computational Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that provides advanced methods to solve complex engineering problems with the aid of computers. Within two years, students will receive an extensive education on fundamentals of applied mechanics, engineering mathematics and programming algorithms. Graduating students will be capable of pursuing careers in manufacturing, civil/petroleum/aerospace engineering, or, especially, pursuing a doctorate degree for further promotions in academia.
As a computational engineer, you might develop computer models to predict critical conditions for a building in extreme situations (typhoons, earthquakes...), or to determine the lifetime of an aircraft owning pre-existing flaws in its fuselage, or to simulate car crashes in order to minimize injuries to passengers. Other applications might include simulation of airflows to stimulate natural ventilation in residential houses or to prevent air pollution in a city.
This is a 2-year full-time study program which includes three semesters of coursework and one semester of master thesis under the guidance of supervisor(s). The teaching language is English.
* Mechatronics and Sensor Systems Technology (MSST)
The program MSST is offered by Hochschule Karhsruhe and was internationally accredited by ASIIN agency. Its certificate was issued on 30/09/2011
Courses rated using European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The program with 120 credits. German degree obtained from Hochschule Karlsruhe - University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
In this program, lectures are held full-time during the week from Monday to Friday. The total of 30 modules will be finished after 18 months. The Master thesis takes six months to complete resulting in the total time of two years to finish the Master's program.

* Sustainable Urban Development (SUD)
Graduates from the Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) Master Program will experience an international education environment with German standard Vietnam and will get a joint-degree Master's Degree from Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD) and Vietnamese-German University (VGU) that meets international qualification.
The program is delivered entirely in English by dedicated and experienced lecturers from Germany and Vietnam and with a high quality curriculum designed by TUD. The program also has a strong connection with domestic and international research organizations and other industries in the field of urban development.
The program SUD is delivered by TU Darmstadt and was internationally accredited in Germany.
* Global Production Engineering and Management (GPEM)
Global Production Engineering and Management is a full-time two-year (4-Semester) Master Program offered at VGU by the Technische Universität Berlin.
The language of instruction is English.
Global Production Engineering and Management graduates go on to assume leading positions as technology managers, functioning successfully in international value-added chains. The qualifications acquired during the study are directly taken from the job descriptions of technology managers in the global business environment.
The study program promotes technical competencies in engineering disciplines, development of manufacturing processes and tools, modeling and simulation, quality control and economic evaluation.
* Business Information Systems (BIS)
Business Information Systems (BIS) is offered at VGU by Heilbronn University and Furtwangen University.
BIS is designed to enable students to develop software systems for business applications. They are trained to analyze and optimize the material, monetary and information flow as well as business processes within a corporation. The creation of information and communication systems is done under consideration of personnel, financial and group specific aspects. Acquiring knowledge about managing employees, leading teams and project management are an important part of the training. This enables the graduates to hold responsible positions where they can plan, develop and install modern information and communication systems, thereby enabling them to further the corporation's participation in global economic processes.
The language of teaching, learning and assessment is English.
* SEPT MBA
SEPT (Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Program Training) is not only an international program but also a research and training program at the University of Leipzig and Vietnamese-German University. It is dedicated to providing theoretical insights as well as practical experience promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We have decided to base our program on the patterns of the outstanding German Mittelstand which try to transmit the knowledge to firms and institutions from all over the world in order to implement winning strategies to successfully promote SMEs.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Entry requirements for the Bachelors programs
- Students need to do an aptitude test called TestAS and an English language screen test called onSet test. Please follow this link to get information about how to register for the test and where and when to do it at your most convenience.
- Students then need to submit the TestAS result and the English onSet test result. Students who have IELTS 5.0/TOEFL PBT 440/TOEFL iBT 42 don't have to take the onSet English test.
Entry requirements for the Masters programs
- Relevant Bachelor degree with a GPA of at least 65%.
- IELTS 5.0 (TOEFL 440 or TOEFL iBT 42) or at least 60 points from VGU's onSet English test.
- Written exam or online interview.
